Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and 2017 MacArthur Fellow Viet Thanh Nguyen (@viet_t_nguyen) presented “Refugees, Immigrants, Americans: Changing Our Stories,” followed by an audience Q&A. America is a story, one in which immigrants and refugees have different roles and challenges. For immigrants and refugees, becoming American must also mean changing the American story.
Nguyen’s book “The Refugees” is Maryland’s 2018-19 First Year Book and was available to students free of charge. A reception and book signing followed the lecture.
Co-sponsored by the Department of English’s Bebe Koch Petrou Lecture and the First Year Book.
